is now the post-office, then the imposing edifice of the Orthodox parish, on the site of present store of Page & Curtin. Other buildings were farther on, but are indistinct because of the dense foliage of trees. This is the most comprehensive view we have. Its details are preserved in various photographs and printed views in the Historical Society's collection. Another view in the Brooks history is notable, the residence of the younger Thatcher Magoun, as seen across the river from South street. This, also, is comprehensive, showing the extensive grounds, with their pagodas, statuary and sinuous paths, the hedge bordering the creek (the latter still to be seen beside our modern parkway), the substantial fence and gateway, and something of High street.
