Lincoln's Satrap in North Carolina. --It is well known to our readers that "Governor" Edward Stanly, on his arrival at the Federal possessions in North Carolina, undertook to conciliate the people to the Lincoln rule. by restoring "contrabandsNorth Carolina, undertook to conciliate the people to the Lincoln rule. by restoring "contrabands" to their owners who would take the oath, closed the negro schools and expelled their teachers, including the notorious Helper. This gave great offence to the Abolitionists, who rule the roost at Washington, and they at once demanded Stanly's recalccomplishing. But, poor, misguided man, he split upon a rock, His vanity taught him to believe that he could come to North Carolina and throw oil upon the troubled waters-- he, Edward Stanly, could come and induce the free people of his native Stateded pill of slavery, and that his name would go down to posterity as the great "Pacificator"--as the man who restored North Carolina to the Union and paid the foundation of its entire reconstruction. He has lived to see, and feel what he is — to hav
Ranaway. --From the subscriber, on the 15th inst., a Negro man named Ben, purchased some short time since of Mr. Stephen Page, of North Carolina. Ben is black, about 32 years of age, over six feet high, has a good number of whip marks upon his person, and wore a trues at the time of his departure, he being raptured. He is probably making his way, to North Carolina, where he has a wife. I will give a reward of Twenty five Dollars for his arrest and delivery to me in Richmond, or for his purchased some short time since of Mr. Stephen Page, of North Carolina.
