An Incident.
--During the session of the Mayor's Court yesterday, a man presented himself with two recruits for Capt. Dimmock's "Armory Guard," who he requested might be duly sworn in. The Mayor explained the nature of the case to the intending soldiers; told them they were about to agree to serve the State of Virginia for three years; that they were to obey the orders of their Captain, also the Governor, who was the Commander-in-Chief of the land and naval forces of Virginia.
They assented readily to all the requirements, but when the Mayor came to that part of the oath which bound them to observed the rules, &c., in force in the United States Army, he halted and said he preferred Col. Dimmock should see the paper, as his conscience would not permit him to swear in the men to do anything of the kind.
The recruiting officer was sent after the Colonel of Ordnance.
