an, Nov. 27, 1861. Four miles by water and five by land from the town of Dumfries is Evansport, where our batteries begin. Just above the bay formed by the enteavily, sending only an occasional shot from each. Standing upon a hill above Dumfries one could see, with a glass everything going on and watch every shot as it strto Gen. French comes Brig. Gen. Wigfall, of Texas, who has his headquarters in Dumfries. The personal appearance of Gen. Wigfall is too well known to the people of thave more to say of Gen. Wigfall before the present month closes. Life in Dumfries is by no means interesting at any time, and the past few days have proved unacinent place in the fight by the Occoquan; should one occur. The road from Dumfries to the village of Occoquan is over a succession of hills and valleys, and runsisting of a few steam gun-boats and steamers are now lying. As is the case by Dumfries, a delightful view of the river can be obtained from the neighboring hills. T
