The Daily Dispatch: August 27, 1861., [Electronic resource], A beautiful offering. (search)
A beautiful offering.
--We had the pleasure of examine last evening a beautiful offering from some ladies, intended for the brave soldiers of Col. Kershaw's regiment.
This token of appreciation is a box containing a large number of Palmetto stars, from the genuine Palmetto, designed and braided by a family of ladies, principally from Columbia, now at their summer residence at Pendicton.
They are of beautiful workmanship, and the Palmetto tree, intended for the Colonel himself, is one of the prettiest ornamental badges we ever saw. Accompanying these are a large number of needle-pouches, containing needles, pins, buttons, &c., and in each is a pretty piece of poetry and Scripture text (in manuscript) by the fair ladies who present it.
This is the neatest, most appropriate, and at the same time useful tokens of woman's appreciation of brave deeds, that we have seen.
It reflects great credit on the patriotism and taste of the fair donors.--Columbia (S. C.) Guardian, 21st.
