The Daily Dispatch: March 2, 1864., [Electronic resource], Daring raid of the enemy — they Approach within three miles of the City — their Repulse on the Brook road — reported Fighting on the Westham Plank road. (search)
nd, and arrived here about the middle of the day yesterday. This column of the enemy is said to have consisted of four regiments of cavalry and one battery of artillery. A report reached the city last night that a portion of them had crossed James river, whilst the others were moving in the direction of Richmond on the Westham plankroad, with the view, it is conjectured, of forming a junction with the column that was repulsed on the Brook turnpike. Two hundred dollars reward --Ran away from my house, in Manchester, on the morning of the 23d, my servant woman Kitty. Said negro is 18 or 19 years of age, rather short, light gingerbread color, and quite stout; her gums are particularly dark; she carried away with her four colored silk dresses, one black silk dress, and two plaid dresses, one black cloth cloak, and a purple silk bonnet, with sundry other articles. She was brought from Mecklenburg just before Christmas, where I bought her, and I think it probable that she may be trying to get back. I will give the above reward for her delivery to me, or to any jail in Richmond so that I may get her. Robt H Talley [mh 1--3t*]
