s. Owen Daly Owen Daly, of Columbia, a veteran of the Second regiment, was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1842, and was brought to America, by his parents, at the age of seven years. His childhood was spent in the North, mainly at New York and Newark, until in 1858 he came to Charleston, and soon made his home at Columbia. He entered the Confederate service in April, 1861, as a private in Company C, Second South Carolina regiment, and he continued on duty as a private until the close of the Hundred, Sussex county, Del., prior to 1700; and his maternal ancestor, Thomas Coleman, born in the north of Ireland, of Scotch parents, married Elizabeth Roe, and settled at Cornwall, Orange county, N. Y., about 1700. Dr. Russel was educated at Newark academy and Delaware college, being graduated at the latter in 1847, after which he began the study of medicine, and received his medical degree from the university of Pennsylvania in 1850.
