How Sound Travels. --The Norfolk papers are noticing some remarkable cases of the distance sounds can be heard in that vicinity — The Argus gives these two: The signal gun of the Receiving Ship Pennsylvania is generally heard on the sea shore, in an easterly direction from the city. The flash of light caused by the discharge, is also very often distinctly seen at a distance of about fifteen miles. Christ Church bell has been heard at Kempsville, a distance of about eight miles in a straight line Some years ago, the beating of a dram was very distinctly heard at London Bridge, in Princess Anne county, about thirteen miles in a direct line from the city. But the drum was supposed at the time to be connected with a band that was playing at Fort Monroe--distant in a direct line between eight and ten miles.
