Jefferson Davis certainly dead. --We once heard an anecdote to the following effect. We know not whether it is to be found in Joe Miller or not. A British ship of war, in the West Indies, was so terribly stricken with the yellow fever, and the dead and dying men increased so fast, that the captain ordered the surgeon to pass around as they fell down, and feel their pulses. If they were dead, they were instantly thrown overboard by a body of men appointed for that purpose.
