We have again stirring news from the Upper Potomac.
Contrary to what was the current belief, the Confederate forces which recently invaded Maryland have again made their presence known and felt in an unexpected manner, and have inflicted a serious disaster upon Federal arms.
On Sunday morning they attacked, in the vicinity of Winchester, the forces of Crook, Averill, Mulligan, and Kelly, the whole being under the command of Major Gen Crook, and after a battle which is said to have tasted nearly the whole of the day, defeated the Federal troops and forced them to retreat to Martinsburg, and subsequently to Harper's Ferry, where Gen Hunter joined them with the other part of his force and took command.
