the constant drill, drill that was absolutely needed to impart cohesion and discipline to this vast Fourth New Jersey regiment, 1861. This three-months regiment was formed at Trenton, N. J., in April, 1861, and arrived at Washington on May 6th. It was on duty at Meridian Hill until May 24th, when it took part in the occupation of Arlington Heights.
