Inquest. --Some parties residing on Union Hill, near the Masonic Lodge, found on Tuesday morning, in a ravine in rear of the Lodge, the body of a newly born infant, which, from appearances, had perished from exposure. An inquest was held over the remains by Justice Baker. The sitting of the jury being adjourned to yesterday, inquiry into the circumstances attending the affair, brought to light the fact that Maria, slave of Joseph Gibbs, was the mother of the infant. The attending physicians were of opinion that the child was born alive. The jury on this evidence brought in a verdict of murder against the woman, who was arrested last night by Constable G. W. Thomas, and put in the county jail to abide the result of a trial.
