from roof to basement. The Court wrapped upon the bench, and the Sheriff in vain endeavored to restore quiet by shouting at the top of his voice. Again and again the applause broke forth. Every one was crazy with joy. The Judge again asked the jury, "Gentlemen, you all find for the defendant?" They answered simultaneously, "Yes, sir."--Again the crowd broke forth in another wild burst of applause. The verdict was announced to Mrs. Burch. She was entirely overcome, and her mother, Mrs. Turner, rushed into her daughter's arms in a flood of tears. In a few minutes the jury visited her at the house of Mr. Skinner, and were presented, many of them unable to control their emotions, and weeping like children. The immense crowd poured in until the house was filled to its utmost capacity, and amid tears of joy and passionate exclamations of delight congratulated Mrs. Burch, who stood like one stupefied at the flood of sympathy and hosts of friends pouring in upon her.--Mr. Browning
