The first legal town-meeting, to consider matters relating to the war, was held on the 1st of May, at which it was voted to raise by taxation one thousand dollars, and to authorize the selectmen to borrow two thousand, if needed, to pay each soldier belonging to the town ten dollars a month while in the service, and to provide for their families. July—, Richard Hall, Francis P. Knowlton, Thomas S. Tuttle, and Benjamin Edwards were chosen to act with the selectmen in the expenditure of the money appropriated at the previous meeting. 1862. July 22d, Voted, to pay a bounty of one hundred dollars to each volunteer for three years service, when mustered in and credited to the town; also the two dollars bounty allowed by the United States. 1863. August 26th, The bounty was raised to one hundred and twenty-five dollars. It was also resolved that the townclerk keep a record of the names
