Printing, II. 409) says, Hezekiah Usher was the first bookseller in English America, of whom I can find any account. He d. May 1676. In his will, dated 11 May and proved 19 May 1676, he names w. Mary; sons Hezekiah and John; dau. Sarah, w. of Jonathan Tyng, and her children John and Mary; grandchildren Hezekiah and Elizabeth Brown, and Elizabeth, dau. of John Usher; son-in-law Samuel Shrimpton; brother Samuel Usher of England; sister Elizabeth, w. of John Harwood, and her children; brother Willis and wife; Robert Usher and his sister Elizabeth; and many others. He left a large property; his inventory being £ 15,358 19 2, from which a deduction was to be made for debts £ 1,325 17 6. 2. Hezekiah, s. of Hezekiah (1), was one of those unhappy men who seem born to disappointment. He engaged largely in land speculations, indulging sanguine hopes of finding rich mines of the precious metals, but h

His work fills forty-one pages, the clearest historical statement we have of our schools as a whole. A few years earlier, and before the Historical Society's forming, the graduates of the High School formed an association and held reunions which were of great interest. In 1892 a brochure was issued, entitled History of the Medford High School by Charles Cummings. From Press of Samuel Usher of Boston. Certainly no one was better qualified for this than he who had been its principal for thirty years. Ten of its closing pages give the names of graduates from 1847 to 1892, but are preceded thus, No list of graduates prior to 1847 has been preserved. Space forbids their reproduction here, but those pages are an interesting study. In 1852 and 1859 no class was graduated, and in 1858 and 1863 but three in each, the latter girls, and during the Civil War but six boys. The
