Mayor's Court. --The Mayor on Saturday last disposed of the following cases: Captain Jacob Castle and Major Oliver Vest, of General Breckinridge's command, were charged with assaulting and beating John McPherson, proprietor of Congress Hall, on Friday night. McPherson appeared in court, with his eye considerably bruisedof quarreling all night with your negroes." Whereupon McPherson flew into a rage and rushed upon Captain Castle. At no time, in the opinion of the witness, did Major Vest interfere, nor was he nearer to the parties than twenty feet. The witness thought McPherson was intoxicated. The Mayor, upon being informed that Captain Castle and Major Vest intended going immediately to their command, discharged them. The case against William Daley, charged with the murder of Mrs. Mary Hanley, was called up; but the accused was recommitted to jail for his appearance this morning.
