Harboring a deserter. --Yesterday at one o'clock a lady of Manchester--Mrs. Elizabeth sby--was arraigned before C. S. Commissioner Wm. F. Watson, on charge of harboring John A. Maddox, a Confederate soldier and deserter. The evidence proved that the father of young Maddox, to prevent him from visiting the --who is a married woman — had him arrested as a conscript as soon as he was eighteen years of age. Young Maddox was taken to Cas Thunder and enrolled, and from thence to Camp Lee, where he was conscripted. That very day he deserted and returned to Mrs. Mosby's, where he was again arrested, and again escaped, and is now at large. The Commissioner, on examining the law could find no punishment designated for merely harboring of deserter, and be therefore examined the accused under the act of Congress providing for the punishment of persons for enticing soldiers to desert. The evidence elicited did not prove that Mrs. Mosby knew that young Maddox was a conscript, or that

Errors. --The name of the woman who was before C. S. Commissioner Watson last Friday on charge of harboring a deserter, John H. Kaddex, is Elizabeth Cook, not Mosby, as published. Mrs. Cook is well known to the residents of Manchester.
