k Ethan Allen (a sailing vessel), and, on the morning of the 9th of January, got underway and stood up St. Joseph's Bay. He anchored at daylight abreast of where he supposed the salt works to be, and sent three armed boats (in charge of Acting-Master A. Weston, his executive officer), with forty men, to destroy them. The men in charge of the works fled when the boats landed, and everything was set on fire and destroyed. This establishment could make 75 bushels of salt daily, and it was thet Paymaster, E. B.
