D., and Daniel Wait. During Mr. Wait's ministry a revival occurred which spread through the town, embracing all the evangelical churches. During this pastorate, also, the church lost by death three of its most valued members—Joseph L. Goldthwait, Albert Butters and Ira T. Barker. In 1869 Rev. N. T. Whitaker followed Mr. Wait. That year the society purchased a house on the corner of Salem and Park streets for a parsonage, but retained it only two years when the new church enterprise demanded all available funds. In 1869 a new board of trustees was incorporated according to the General Statutes of the Commonwealth. On July 1, 1871, land for a new church was bought on Salem street near Cross street, and the work of building was entered upon at once. The building committee were William

ndicated that it was time for some church organization to enter and occupy this field. The attendance on Sundays at the hall had decreased materially, till in March scarcely more than twenty-five attended. One afternoon early in August Rev. N. T. Whitaker called upon some of his people in the west end, also came to the house where the writer was at work, and introduced himself as the Methodist pastor, and before leaving had secured a promise of attendance upon the weekly class meeting he prd to establish on Tuesday evenings. He also gave a cordial invitation to attend the afternoon preaching at Medford when convenient to do so, though none realized more than he the effort it required. On a Tuesday evening in October (187 I), Mr. Whitaker organized a class meeting, according to the usage of the church, at the home of Brother N. D. Ripley on Lincoln street. The Medford parsonage was then at the corner of Salem and Park streets and almost the nearest house to the Malden line, whi

Eight of them were present, and with their wives formed a long receiving line. Dr. N. T. Whitaker, whose pastorate was 1869-70-71, was followed by Revs. Watkins, Bragg, Curnick, Chadbourne, Pomeroy, Bridgham and Richardson in the order of their service. A later pastor, (Vandermark) unable to come, was represented by his wife. Their remer pastors, Cassidy, in whose time the present church edifice was erected, Tilton and Van Buskirk were present. Each was accorded a hearty greeting and spoke words of cheer and counsel. Like a wonderful benediction was the presence of Rev. N. T. Whitaker (pastor at Medford in 1870-72), who organized the class-meeting in October, ‘71, and was present at the formal organization, April I, ‘72, and also preached the twenty-fifth anniversary sermon. He has but recently retired from the active
