Whitney, Edward Baldwin 1857- Lawyer; born in New Haven, Conn., Aug. 16, 1857; graduated at Yale University in 1878; admitted to the bar in 1880; was assistant Attorney-General of the United States in 1893-97, in which capacity he participated in the argument on the incometax case, the Debs trial, etc. In 1898 he secured the first decision against a manufacturing monopoly under the federal anti-trust law, in the trial of the Cast-Iron Pipe Trust. He is the author of The advice and consent of the Senate; Commercial retaliation between the States; Reciprocity legislation; Incometax decision; Federal judges and quasi judges, etc.
