Dastardly outrage. --The steamer Logan, plying on York River, was set fire to on Tuesday night last. It appears that the mate of the steamer, while going his rounds, had his attention attracted by the smell of burning cotton, and soon discovered that a lot of greased waste had been deposited in a place known only to those familiar with the boat, and set on fire. It was promptly extinguished, and the steamer saved from destruction. The York River train yesterday brought up two persons, in custody of Lieut. Whittle, who were arrested on suspicion of committing the outrage. One is the engineer of the steamer, named George L. Bond, formerly of Baltimore, and the other is named Stephen Booth, a machinist, of this city, who had been assisting in making repairs to the engine. They were delivered over to the Governor, who consigned them to the Penitentiary for the present.--This, we learn, is the second attempt that has been made to burn the boat.
