Jere Clemens. --The Mobile Register and Advertiser says that "Hon." Jere Clemens was beaten within an inch of his life on the streets of Huntsville the other day by Augustus Withers, a brother of Gen. J. M. Withers. Mr. Withers was one of the twelve citizens incarcerated by Mitchell, and their prison window commanded a view of the Yankeeized Southerners, of whom they had kept a list. They had spoken very plainly about these individuals, of whom Clemens was one, who, coming up behind Mr. Withers, snapped a pistol at him. Withers turned and beat him as mentioned, disfiguring him frightfully.
