York papers of the 16th--one day later. Fighting at Nashville — the Yankees claim to have Driven Hood eight miles from the city. The Yankees claim to have gained a decided victory over one portion of General Hood's line around Nashville, though the battle had not been decided at the latest advices. The Federal line advanced at 9 o'clock on Thursday morning. A telegram from Nashville, Thursday night, at 10 o'clock, says: The line was formed thus: General Steedman on left; General L. J. Wood, with the Fourth corps, next, and General A. J. Smith next, with General Cox in reserve; and the cavalry, under General Wilson, fighting dismounted, occupying the extreme right, aided by gunboats on the river. The artillery practice has been fine, and at times the musketry firing continuous and heavy; and although the casualties have been light, the results are very fair.
