set out in that direction. The Raleigh Confederate of Thursday says that, on the evening and night of the 20th, Sherman moved from Bentonsville towards Goldsboro'. The distance from Bentonsville to Goldsboro' is about twenty miles. Referring to affairs after the battle of Bentonsville, the Confederate says: "General Sherman's whole army was intrenched on the morning of the 20th, and we did not renew the attack, but held our positions, and brought off all of our wounded. There was heavy skirmishing on the 20th and 21st, and several partial attacks by the enemy, which were handsomely repulsed. "The troops all behaved admirably, and the army has fully disapproved the slanders that have been circulated against it." As is proper, our Southern exchanges give no information relative to the movements of General Johnston's troops. The Raleigh Conservative learns that Governor Vance has requested the Council of State to meet in Raleigh on Monday, the 27th instant.

Mallet's residence burned, Mrs. Banks's residence burned, Branch Bank of the State of North Carolina burned, two warehouses occupied by the Rockfish Company burned, court-house and jail burned, all the cotton factories burned. "
Mr. James Davis, a citizen of Mecklenburg, North Carolina, has contributed provisions enough, in response to the present call of Governor Vance, to feed one hundred soldiers for six months.

From North Carolina. Raleigh, December 9. --The Legislature counted the vote to-day for Governor. Worth received 32,539; Holden, 25,809. Majority for Worth, 6,730. Vance received 132; Stamper, 52; and R. F. Hoke, 22. The Legislature had passed a joint resolution to inaugurate Governor Worth to-day, but rescinded it this morning. The Legislature passed a resolution to adjourn on the 18th instant, to meet on the 1st of February.

The Governorship of North Carolina. Raleigh, N. C., December 9. --The Legislature of this State to-day counted the vote recently cast for Governor: Worth, 32,539; Holden, 25,809--majority for Worth, 6,730. Vance, 132; Stamper, 52; R. F. Hoke, 22. The Legislature had passed a joint resolution to inaugurate Mr. Worth to-day, but rescinded it this morning, and passed a resolution to adjourn on the 18th instant to meet on the 1st of February.
