ey's Station, but it amounted to very little. [Second Dispatch.] Headq'rs Army Northern Va.,May 20th. Up to three o'clock yesterday nothing of interest occurred. About that time General Ewell moved forward in force an armed reconnaissance toward the enemy's right flank. About five o'clock our skirmishers engaged those of the enemy a little west and north of the road leading from Spotsylvania Court-House to Fredericksburg. The enemy soon brought up a heavy force, consisting of Hancock's second, a large part of Burnside's ninth corps, and heavy artillery troops drawn from the defences at Washington and armed as infantry, when a considerable fight ensued, and at one time our line of skirmishers had possession of the enemy's wagon train, but were compelled to relinquish it, not however, until we had brought off some of their mules. The fight lasted until 9 o'clock at night, when Ewell fell back to his original position, having lost in the engagement about 150 wounded, abou
Robberies. --The stable of Dr. F. W. Hancock, on Main, between Third and Fourth streets, was burglariously entered on Friday night and a favorite riding mare of his was saddled and driven off. The deed must have been committed at an early hour, as before eleven o'clock an emergency required the attendance at the stable of the Doctor's ostler, at which hour the animal was gone. The same night, the residence of Mr. J. H. Jordane, living on Leigh street, near Brook avenue, was forcibly entered and robbed of a valuable lot of china ware, sugar and coffee, which was in his basement. In this instance the thieves gained admittance by chiselling off the lock from the back basement door. Mr. Jordane and his family were absent from home at the time. Six butchers' stalls in the First Market, occupied respectively by Messrs. Acree, Lindsey, Brauer, Hechler, Cullingsworth, and the "city stall," were broken open and robbed of their contents. The Richmond Board of health. --It will be pleasing to our citizens to know that the members of this institution have gone to work in earnest to perfect the object of its organization, and seem to appreciate fully their responsible and important position. Dr. F. W. Hancock, the efficient president, is taking energetic measures to get information as to the systems established by other health boards. He is in correspondence with the health officers of the large cities North and South, and has received from Philadelphia a number of forms of registry of births and deaths, reports of boards, etc., which are very complete. We learn that the City Council will soon take measures for the health and cleansing, and to aid the Board to get statistical information with regard to the births and deaths, of the city. From the high standing of the physicians of this Board, it is to be hoped that the health of the city will be preserved, and that it may be, in a measure, prepared to a
