With the exception of three small chests of homœopathic medicine, nothing contraband was found. Seizure of property at Cincinnati. Speaking of the seizure of property in Cincinnati, on Tuesday, under the confiscation law, the Gazette says: In the establishment of Rawson, Wilby & Co., No. 8 Columbia street, and that of Tomlinson & McLaughlin, the deputy marshal found about $9,000 worth of tobacco, selling on commission for a Virginia seceder. L. T. Hughes, off Columbia street, between Main and Walnut, acknowledges having in his possession a large amount of money, the proceeds of sales of Southern goods — probably $10,000. J. C. ession of the desired information: Heavy discharges of artillery are heard this morning, the sound coming from the direction of Old Point. The Yankee artillerymen, and our boys, too, are probably shooting at a target, or discharging their pieces as usual after rainy weather. Yesterday a quarrel took place between two marines on board the Confederate ship States, lying off the Navy-Yard, and one of the men, named Dorsey, becoming enraged on being charged with theft by the other, (McLaughlin,) seized a rifle and struck his adversary a blow on the face, which broke his jaw bone and dislocated his neck, killing him instantly. Dorsey was arrested, and an investigation of the case will take place this morning before the Mayor of Portsmouth. The Irish vessel which went ashore last week on the coast a short distance south of Cape Henry, will be a total loss. The crew have arrived here and will go North, in order to return home. They will probably leave this city to-day for O

Drowned. --A melancholy accident occurred at Judge Kenney's saw-mill dam, on Middle River, in Augusta county, last Thursday morning, about 9 o'clock. On that morning one of the Judge's servant boys, Roscoe, about 18 years of age, crossed the river near the dam in a boat, for the purpose of taking across a young lady living in the neighborhood, a Miss McLaughlin. On the return of the boat, from some cause or other the boy became frightened and jumped into the river, the young lady following his example. Neither being able to swim, they both sank and were drowned.--Rockingham Register, 28th.

intain the fort, and wishing to spare the lives of the gallant men under my command, and on consultation with my officers, I surrendered the fort. Our casualties are small. The effect of our shot was severally felt by the enemy, whose superior and overwhelming force alone gave them the advantage. The surrender of Fort Henry involves that of Capt. Taylor, Lieut. Watts, Lieut. Weller and one other officer of artillery; Capts. Hayden and Miller, of the Engineers, Capts. H. L. Jones and McLaughlin, Quartermaster's Department; A. A. A. Gen. McConnice, and myself, with some fifty privates and twenty sick, together with all the munitions of war in and about the fort. I communicate this result with deep regret, but feel that I performed my whole duty in the defence of my post. I take occasion to bear testimony to the gallantry of the officers and men under my command. They maintained their position with consummate bravery as long as there was any hope of success. I also take
