The latter part of October McClellan's movements determined General Lee to withdraw from the Valley of the Shenandoah, leaving his cav appointment of Burnside.
This General promptly made a demonstration on the Upper Rappa-hannock, as he moved towards Fredericksburg.
General Lee crossed to the south side of the Rapidan, and, by the latter part of November, the Federal and Confederate Armies again confronted one another at Fredericksburg, where we quietly awaited the development of events.
