e he was colonel of the Fortieth regiment, South Carolina State militia, and had previously served on the staff of Gov. John L. Manning with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. In April, 1861, he volunteered in the Confederate service and was made firstldren living: James Byers, Mary Elizabeth, John Wesley and Cornelia Hope. Lieutenant William P. Gresham, commander of Manning—Austin camp, U. C. V., at Simpsonville, S. C., was born in Spartanburg county, March 3, 1834. He is the son of Alexandeer of John P. Smith, of Greenville county, and they have five children, three sons and two daughters. He is a member of Manning-Austin camp, U. C. V., and was county supervisor for two years. Robert T. Hollingsworth Robert T. Hollingsworth waa in 1804. Two other descendants of General Richardson have held the same high office, Gov. Richard I. Manning and Gov. John L.
