News from New Mexico. Independence, Dec. 15
--The New Mexican mail, in charge of conductor Coan, with dates to the 26th ult. arrived here last night.
Mr. Whiting, Postmaster at Santa Fe, came through as passenger.
He reports very dull times in New Mexico; also, that the Indian troubles on the plains are assuming a very serious aspect.
At McKee's creek the mail party were charged upon by thirty Camanche Indians, and it was only by decided and prompt action that they succeeded in keeping them off. The Indians were well armed with rifles.
The mail party were detained an hour by the attack, and then retreated to a train seven miles behind.
The outgoing mail was also forced to retreat by the Indians to Pawnee Fork. Mr. Whiting says that from the Cemorore to Pawnee Fork the Indians were seen every day on the high ridges, and there is no doubt that they will cut off all small parties traveling on the road — Since the raid on Mr. Walker, a few days ago, and the subsequent ki
