W. gale, in the Vineyard Sound, about two miles south of Quick's Hole. About eight feet of her lower masts are out of water. It is supposed that the ice made so fast on the vessel that she foundered, carrying down all on board. Small pieces of a boat and cabin work have washed ashore on the north side of the Vineyard. The wreck is supposed to be that of schr. R. R. Freeman, (of Wellfleet,) Smith, from Tangier, Va., with oysters for Boston. The R. R.
The Confederated Congress. Montgomery,Feb. 13.--Vice-President Stephens presented a model flag and the model of a device for the seal of the Confederacy. Referred. Mr. Brooks offered a resolution that the Committee, in selecting a flag and seal, be instructed to adopt and report a flag as similar as possible to the flag of the United States, making only such changes as may be necessary to distinguish easily one from the other, and adopt an arrangement by which the stripes shall number the States of the Confederacy. Mr. Brooks accompanied his resolution with some felicitous remarks, in the course of which, referring to the "Stars and Stripes," he said that flag is an idol of the heart, around which cluster memories of the past which time cannot efface or cause to grow dim. Freshet the North. Albany, N. Y.,Feb. 13. --The ice broke up in front of the city at 8 o'clock this morning, causing a great destruction to property.--Steamers, barges and canal boats were driven on the docks and into the streets by the immense of as great a freshet as occurred in 1857. The telegraph lines between here and Troy are all down. Nashua, N. H., Feb. 13. --The thaw has caused a freshet in the Sonhegan river, piling ice and water to a great depth on the railroad track between here and Wilton, stopping the passage of all trains. Honesdale, Pa.,Feb. 13. --The dam of a large reservoir on Carleybrook, owned by the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company, broke away this morning, destroying in its course a large saw mill ande has also been done to the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company in this vicinity. Fire in Baldwinsville, N. Y. Baldwinsville,Feb. 13.--A fire at 10 o'clock last night destroyed the flouring mill owned by Johnson Cook & Co., and contents. Loss, $100,000 on the mill and $40,000 on grain; insured for about $18,000; mostly in the following companies:--Hartford, Conn., Fulton. N. Y., and Hamden, Springfield, Mass. The fire is supposed to have originated by friction of the machinery.
Fire at Portland, Me. Portland, Me. Feb. 13. --The block of buildings, Nos. 33 and 37 Commercial street, occupied by Sherman & Hall, and others, and containing a large stock of tobacco, &c., was destroyed by fire this morning.
