The announced arrest of "J. R. Chisman," for the murder of a woman in North Carolina, should have been J. R. Chipman. Mr. Chisman is a respectable citizen of Norfolk, and has not been arrested as might be supposed from a typographical error.
Direct trade with Europe. A line of steamships is about to be started between Charleston, S. C., and Europe, it being now a political as well as a commercial necessity to have direct trade between the South and Europe. The Norfolk Argus says, Norfolk was to have been the importing emporium of the South, but the action of Virginia has prevented this consummation so devoutly wished for by our people. Rumored Servile insurrection. Norfolk, March 2. --Some excitement was caused here last night by a suspected secret plot among the negroes for insurrection, in which four white men, it is alleged, were engaged. A detachment of volunteers were out.
