The militia. --As one pregnant sign of the times, we may note the activity that prevails among the enrolled militia of the State, and the evident thirst for a knowledge of the art of war which it so plainly demonstrates.--Several company musters have lately taken place which were in no wise imitations of the farces of the same name of a past era. On Thursday evening we witnessed the parade under Capt. Jas. H. Chamberlayne, of the 4th company of the 1st battalion attached to the 19th regiment of the line. The parade took place at the corner of 6th and Canal streets. The ranks were full, and the men attentive to instruction. Two Lieutenants and four Sergeants aided the Captain in discharging his duty. The only thing which seemed to be needed to make the men soldiers was arms.--We may remark that the field and company officers of the old 19th have, since last November, been drilling regularly twice a week.
