Purchase of arms. --At a meeting of the City Council, held on the 14th day of January, 1861, Mr. Hill, of Jefferson Ward, offered a resolution instructing the Committee of Finance to raise $50,000, by sale of bonds, for the purpose of arming and equipping such of the volunteer companies of Richmond as are now commissioned, or may be hereafter commissioned. The resolution provided that a committee of two members from each Ward should obtain arms, ammunition and equipments, and, if necessarbut at an adjourned meeting of the Council, held Monday evening, in consequence of the exigencies of the times, and recent war news, it was called up and unanimously adopted, all the members being present save Col. Haskins. The following gentlemen were appointed a committee to procure arms, &c.: Messrs. Hill and Stokes, Jefferson Ward; Messrs. Grattan and Wynne, Madison Ward; and Messrs. Glazebrook and Epps, Monroe Ward. By vote of the Council, Mr. Saunders, its President, was added thereto.

The Grand Lodge which had been holding its session during last week in Wheeling, Va., on Friday last elected the following officers for the ensuing year: Thos. G. Steele, of Parkersburg, R. W. G. Treasurer; Rev. M. D. Keiley, of Petersburg, C. W. G. Chaplain; P. G. M. Jacob. K. Robinson, of Lynchburg, G. Representative to G. Lodge; George H. Head, Leesburg. G. Conductor; B. S. Harmar, Shinstown, G. Marshal; Alexander Grant, Richmond, G. Guardian; Isaac Schriver, Richmond, G. Herald.
