Mexico (Mexico) (search for this): article 13
New Orleans banks.
--The banks of New Orleans, some days ago, finding that large amounts of gold were withdrawn by the merchants for shipment to the West, availed themselves of that act of the Confederate Congress which makes American and Mexican silver dollars a legal tender for any amount, at two per cent. premium in the redemption of their notes, as well as in payment of the checks of depositors who demand specie.
This movement, (says the Delta,) will prevent the drainage of gold for shipment West and North.
The banks still furnish the volunteers of the Confederate Army with small gold, as required.
