nd its boundless and fathomless swamps. The Mississippi above Memphis is securely guarded by swamps, by canebrakes, and by batteries of columbiads. All the South is secure from invasion except Eastern Virginia. All the South can, therefore, afford to concentrate its forces in our State. These forces are pouring in upon us in formidable numbers, and we think the cause is safe. The presence of the Confederate Government is equivalent to a host of men. The excellent generalship of President Davis will soon infuse system, order and confidence in every division and corps. When our forces are got well "in hand," and all things are ready for the fray, we shall then see what fate awaits the invaders of Virginia. While the South is closed, the North is very open, to invasion; and if the war last a year, it will be waged upon Northern soil. The Virginia campaign will make veterans of the Southern forces. It will then be for us to assume the offensive and to plan campaigns.--We

The Frankfort Yeoman warns the people of Kentucky that secret machinations are at work to bring about a subjection as complete as that of Maryland. That paper says: It has information from a source of the highest respectability that Garrett Davis has procured a large quantity of arms for the exclusive use of his partisans. From thirty-two to forty boxes, containing 1200 stand of arms and ammunition, were known to have been brought across the river from Cincinnati to Covington, shippeve them; and before daylight, two wagons were loaded and sent off to Georgetown. Fourteen boxes were retained at Paris; the remainder, it is presumed, were dispatched to Lexington and Winchester. The arrival of guns and ammunition at Paris — muskets — was the signal of great rejoicing, manifested in the form of wasting ammunition by many discharges of musketry.-- The guns were promptly distributed to those deemed faithful, Mr. Davis being on hand, the foremost figure in the foreground

Affairs in Kentucky. Louisville, May 27. --The report of the introduction of guns into this State is confirmed. Garrett Davis and his friends rely on the constitutional guarantee to the citizens of the right to carry and bear arms, as their justification. There are indications that most of the arms will fall into hands that will not use them under any circumstances, to fight in the cause of Lincoln, but will use them to sustain Kentucky in her position of neutrality, and in case that should be impossible, then in defence of the homes and freedom of the South. The arms are said to be in the county jails, subject to the order of Kentucky's legitimate authorities. Their introduction is considered, by the pure conservative State-Rights party, who constitute a vast majority of the people of Kentucky, as a God-send.
