A serious and unfortunate affair. --Dr. A. T. W. Mather, was shot and (supposed) mortally wounded, yesterday afternoon, about 6 o'clock, by Mr. A. S. Withers, at the residence of the latter, No. 368 St. Charles street. These balls are said to have entered his breast and side, producing wounds that will probably terminate fatally. Mrs. Withers is said to have been accidentally wounded by a shot in the hand. After the shooting Mr. Withers walked down town and surrendered himself to officer Casson, on Camp. street.
