The Central Presbyterian remarks that one of the most celebrated Indian battles on record was that fought on the Virginia side of the Ohio river, at Point Pleasant, in 1774, between the confederated tribes led on by their great chieftain Cornstalk, and the troops under the command of Gen. Andrew Lewis. This battle was onggested at various times for suitably distinguishing the spot so memorable in our colonial history, but one by one they have been abandoned. Now the women of Point Pleasant have taken the enterprise under their control, and, of course, it must succeed. The Presbyterian says that a society has been organized, and was chartered by the last Legislature, called the "Point Pleasant Monument Association." Mrs. Jno. S. Lewis is the Regent, and efforts are making to appoint Vice Regents throughout the State for the purpose of organizing auxiliary associations, and securing contributions to the object.
