Census of the United States
--The total population of the United States, as indicated by full returns of the census received at Washington, is 31,000,000, an increase since the census of 1850 of upwards of 7,900,000 persons.--The new ratio of representation in the House of Representatives, rendered necessary by this increase of population, will be about one member to every 133,000 inhabitants.
