Arrest — Another Haul of counterfeit money. --On Saturday last, a young man calling himself Albert L Riddell, charged with passing $100 in counterfeit notes of the Bank of South Carolina on Williams, Peters & Co., brokers; and another, named David S. Chilton, charged with having in his possession $1,500 in counterfeit notes of the same description, were arrested in this city, and locked up to a wait an examination. It appears that Riddell offered ten $10 notes to Mr Peters, and received good notes in return, and also left his card, stating that he stopped at the Exchange Hotel. The notes were all new, and after they had been more thoroughly examined, Mr. Peters became convinced that they were not genuine. He thereupon submitted them to other brokers, who pronounced them counterfeit Mr. Peters repaired to the Exchange Hotel, and a message was sent to the station-house, with a view to effect an arrest. Fire in Boston. Boston, Jan. 5. --The granite building, No. 72, Long wharf, was damaged by fire this morning. It was occupied by Van Pray &Co. Alpheus Hardy, Elijah Williams & Co. Loss $16,000 --insured.
