hy speech against the report. Dr. Z. S. McGruder, Representative of the county, announced his willingness to obey the instructions of the meeting. Col. Sherwin McRae introduced certain resolutions, which he sustained in an animated speech. Mr. Franklin Stearns was in favor of raising the necessary amount by private R. A. Mayo and John B. Young, Esqs., and others, made speeches, after which, the following was offered by Col. Harrison, as a substitute for the resolutions of Col. McRae: Revolved. That our Senator and Delegate in the House of Representatives be requested to frame and put through the Legislature a bill authorizing the Coun Court of Henrico to raise by loan, $2,500 for the purpose of arming the county to be submitted to a vote of the people within five days from its passage. Col. McRae then withdrew his resolutions, and a speech was made by Mr. Cox, and a long letter read from James Lyons, Esq., in favor of authorizing the Court by law, to pur
