A Daring thief.
--On the night of the 9th inst, as the steamer Monarch was going down the Mississippi, below Memphis, Tenn., a thief entered the state-room of Captain Linn, of Kentucky, whom he robbed of $150. He next stole about the same amount from a Mr. Ferguson, and then entered the clerk's room, whom he stupefied with chloroform, and opening the safe, took therefrom all it contained, about $250. Having secured his plunder, he went to the stern of the steamer, detached the yawl, and made his way to the shore unmolested.
