Vice President Stephens.
--Vice President Stephens, of the Confederate States, was reported dead by the Northern telegraph day before yesterday, and the Submissionists hereabouts tried to shed a few lachrymose tears over his past virtues, untimely end, &c., winding up with the unanimous verdict that the South had lost its best man. The dispatches yesterday state that he had addressed a meeting of his fellow-citizens in Warrenton, Ga., on Monday, resulting in their voting a subscription of four thousand bales of cotton for the prosecution of the war. That is equal to a quarter of a million of dollars; a good round sum for one small town to subscribe.--Mr. Stephens is truly a good and great man, and not quite dead yet--Louisville Courier.
