From Norfolk.[special correspondence of the Dispatch.] Norfolk, Va., July 18, 1861 Yesterday afternoon a Federal steamer approached the battery at Pig's Point, fired a shot or two, and hastily retreated. The battery did not reply, and properly, too, since the steamer showed no signs of a fight. We were unable to learn her name, but commend the discretion of her commander, in not "halting" to fire. A gentleman who was at Bethel a week ago, informed a gentleman here, that while riding in that neighborhood, he came across four or five Yankees, who, upon his appearance, fled through the woods. Upon inquiry, they were found to be looking for their dead. It will be remembered many were found in the thickets, wounded and nearly starved, after the battle, whither they had gone to prevent being captured. From Fortress Monroe. Fortress Monroe, July 18. --Steamers from Norfolk have been landing troops at Sewell's Point, where there is apparently a formidable force. Preparations are being made to annoy the Federal shipping; doubtless by masked batteries at Willoughby's Point, and opposite the Rip Raps. Two negroes from Pig's Point report the Southerners in considerable force opposite Newport News.
