t recollection your patriotic endeavors to alleviate our sufferings. To the citizens of Gloucester county we are also under many obligations for many acts of kindness and hospitality. They have come with their carriages to our camp and taken our sick soldiers to their private dwellings, and cared for them without compensation or reward. These instances have been too numerous to make special mention of individuals. We cannot, however, refrain from tendering our thanks to Messrs. Haywood, Bristow and others, who came from near West Point, a distance of forty miles, with the very generous offer of transportation and entertainment for eighty sick soldiers, and more if we saw fit to send them. These acts of kindness and hospitality have placed us under peculiar obligations to the citizens of the Old Dominion, and will ever be most fondly remembered by us. Very truly, yours, R. M.
