Brown was arrested and brought to the city. The residence of a gentleman on Chatham street, near Egbert, was visited by the Federal police, and he was required to leave his house in obedience to the mandate from Washington. He inquired by what authority he was thus arrested, and was informed that it was by the authority of the Provost Marshal of Washington city. The London News, of the 31st of August, says: At five o'clock last evening an extensive fire broke out on the premises of Messrs. Harrison & Wilson, sugar bakers and refiners, situate in Upper Dock street, East Smithfield, and within a few yards of the St. Katharine Dock.
