cannon firing having been heard this portion Saturday morning last, it produced considerable remark, and much curiosity was expressed to understand the cause of it. During the day a report reached the city that a British steam frigate was in the offing, and exchanged salutes with the Yankee steamship Wabash.--She was supposed by many to be the British steam frigate Rinaldo, that has lately been off Beaufort, North Carolina, and which vessel is certainly somewhere off the coast, looking after British interests and investigating the nature of the Lincoln blockade. At 2 o'clock. P. M., the steamer Gordon went outside, but could see nothing of the strange vessel. She may have been a British man-of-war, but the general impression i that she was one of the Lincoln fleet, bound South, which touched off this port as she passed, and paid her respects to the flag ship. The blockading vessels now near this harbor are the Wabash steam frigate and Vandalia sailing sloop.--Charleston Courier.
