desire to preserve their own fields and firesides from its ravages. They are anxious to keep it in our State, or else to push it through our State into Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Western Virginia. For the accomplishment of this work, necessary, in their opinion, to their very existence, they are resolved on sending their whole strength immediately forward to the dark and bloody ground, to render it darker and bloodier.
