The Daily Dispatch: October 18, 1861., [Electronic resource], Another Southerner sent to Fort Lafayette. (search)
Unfortunate occurrence. A correspondent writes from Fairfax C. H., October 13th, that Lieut. Arnold, of Georgia, was shot and mortally wounded on the previous day by a sentinel. He had walked out from camp, and on his return saluted the sentinel as usual, but had proceeded only a few paces when he was shot in the left breast. The last word that escaped his lips was the name of the one to whom his affections were pledged. The deceased was popular with his company, and his loss will be mourned by many relatives and friends.
