the troops as are designated to remain in winter quarters near Washington are actively employed. In erecting wooden sheds and huts for their protection against the inclemency of the coming season. Some important arrests were made in Maryland by the naval expedition which went down the lower Potomac a few days ago, under direction of a Government detective, and returned to Washington yesterday. The arrested parties six in number, prove to have belonged to a secret organization in St. Mary's county, for the purpose of conveying men and arms to the rebels in Virginia. A rebel spy, no entry returned from Richmond, with a large number of letters and papers in his possession, was also taken, together with a quantity of correspondence found in the different post-offices in lower Maryland.
