The Potomac.
There is nothing new from the army of the Potomac.
The batteries at Evansport keep up a constant firing upon small vessels attempting to run the blockade at night, but with no recent important result.
On Saturday a heavy cannonade was heard in that direction, and so rapid were the discharges that it was supposed at Centreville that a general engagement was going on. It turned out, however, to be Imboden's light battery engaged in field practice, for the purpose of testing the efficiency of his men, and the rapidity with which the guns could be handled.
The effect at Centreville, some twenty miles distant, was similar to that of the continuous our of musketry, mingled with the heavier reports of howitzers and rifled cannon.
